Our Doctors

Dr Pat Murphy

Dr Pat Murphy graduated with his Medical degree from UCC in 1978. He completed Post Graduate Medical training in Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics at the Cork University Hospital. He also worked in Psychiatry, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Geriatric Medicine and Neurology. He is a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society. He has a Diploma in Child Health and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Pat came to Bandon in 1983 and established the practice at 11 Oliver Plunkett St. The premises were extended in 1990 and again in 2005. Pat was a member of the Board of Governors of The Mercy Hospital Cork for ten years. He has also completed a post graduate course in Diabetes, Substance Misuse and Addiction..Management of Back Problems, Joint Conditions and has a special interest in Musculoskeleal Disorders, Minor Surgery and Mens Health.

Pat is married to Louise and has a daughter and two sons. He loves to dream of exploring 5 star hotels in his spare time and cheering on his children from the sidelines.

Dr Aideen Coleman

Dr Aideen Coleman graduated from UCC in 2005,following graduation Aideen worked in fields of Emergency Medicine and General Medicine before completing the Cork Training Scheme in General Practice in 2012. She is a member of Irish Collage of General Practitioners and has completed diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in Child Health.Dr Coleman is a registered Smear taker with Cervical Check and has completed a Certificate in Contraception. Competent in both Implanon and Mirena insertions. Aideen completed Diabetes in Primary Care Module in UCC, and has a special interest in Paediatrics, contraception and the management of diabetes in the community.Dr Coleman joined the Bandon Medical clinic in 2013.

Aideen is married to Gearoid and has a keen interest in running and pilates.

Dr Sureka

Dr Sureka, a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners graduated from the University College of Dublin in 2007. She worked as a medical officer for 2 years in the Mater Hospital, Dublin. She also worked for a year in the emergency department and also a year in the psychiatry department in Cork. She then went onto train as a general practitioner for 4 years in Co. Kerry on the South West General practice scheme. She has a special interest in Geriatric medicine and has a diploma in the medicine for the elderly from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. She also has a special interest in women’s health and has a diploma for Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Sureka is a registered cervical smear taker on the cervical check programme and has also completed a certificate in contraception.

Sureka loves travelling, swimming and music. She is originally from Sri Lanka and grew up in Singapore. She enjoys meeting new people from all walks of life. She joined our practice in 2016 and is looking forward to being part of the community here.

Our Nurses

Phil Healy: RGN RM

Phil is our practice nurse. She graduated from the Bons Hospital in 1987, followed by midwifery in the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin in 1989. Having then worked in the Rotunda for a year, she then returned to the Bon Secours Hospital and worked in midwifery, general, gynaecology and care of the elderly. She joined the practice in 1999 and qualified as a practice nurse in 2001. She is also a registered cervical smear taker with the cervical screening programme. She completed a module in UCC/MUH on diabetes management in 2011. (She provides sessions for antenatal care, childhood vaccinations, flu vaccinations, chronic illness management, wound management, warfarin clinics, smear taking.)

Ann O’Donovan: RGN

Ann is from Courmacsherry. She graduated as RGN from MUH in 1983. She also graduated as RM from HM Stanley Hospital St. Asaph North Wales in 1986. She worked as a registered midwife in both community and hospital setting after graduating in North Wales. She worked as RGN in MUH and is a registered midwife in the Bon Secours Hospital before taking a career break to rear her three children for nine years. Ann went back to nursing in 1996 and worked in Clonakilty Community Hospital before doing research in Prosper Study in 1999. She then went on and completed the Practice Nurse training course in Cork in 2002. She held the Chairperson position of the Cork Branch of Practice Nurses Association for three years during which time Cork hosted the IPNA Conference in 2005. Ann is a registered smear taken with Cervical Check and has completed a Certificate in Contraception and word management. She recently completed Diabetes in Primary Care Module in UCC. (Ann provides sessions for childhood vaccinations, management of chronic illness, antenatal care, smear taking, warfarin clinics and occupational medicine.)
